Los Angeles Coronavirus Discrimination

If you are living in Los Angeles, fear of the corona virus is absolutely an issue. In fact, it has become a reality for the millions of people who live here. To top it off, signs of bigotry and discrimination against individuals - especially those who are of Chinese or Asian descent is becoming more and more prevalent each day. This is a sad and disturbing situation, and many are left to their own despair.

According to news reports, the coronavirus (COVID-19) is believed to have initially developed in China. Unfortunately, the news reports have subsequently led to a spike in extremely racist attacks on Asian-Americans here in the United States, and of course across the globe. Just recently on a Los Angeles subway train, a man was recorded saying xenophobic and discriminatory remarks against Chinese. Even other Asians traveling in the United States were rejected a stay at a hotel due to their ethnicity and its relationship with the coronavirus.

Please remember that discrimination on the basis of race and national origin is prohibited under Title VII civil rights laws. This also applies heavily when violated in the workplace and there is retaliation and discrimination involved.

Even though cases are not necessarily popping up left and right, hidden emotions regarding this issue are being forced internally among the Angeleno minority community. This is becoming an issue as we speak, and it needs to stop today.

Just recently, a North Hollywood student was discriminated against at his High School after reports of the corona virus, when it first began in the beginning of the month. According to the news, the student drank water and it went down the wrong pipe, so he started coughing. The teacher forced him to go to the nurse. The student said that when he asked the teacher why non-Asian students were not forced to see the nurse when they started coughing in class, the teacher began retaliating against him.
