Refer an employment case. Keep your client. Get paid.

Freiman Legal takes employment referrals from solo and small-firm lawyers in California and Nevada. You get a written referral agreement before any work starts, a reply within one business day, and updates as the case moves. Your client stays your client.

Call (310) 917-1004 or email lawrence@freimanlegal.com.

Who refers to us

  • Solo and small-firm lawyers who do not litigate employment cases.
  • Personal injury, family, immigration, and business lawyers whose client was fired, harassed, or unpaid.
  • Out-of-state firms with a California or Nevada employment matter.
  • Retired lawyers and in-house counsel.

What you get

  • Fee set in writing before the referral. We agree on your share before you send the client, subject to the client's written consent, which we obtain at intake. No surprises at settlement.
  • Paid when the case resolves. Your share is paid from the fee at the same time we are paid.
  • One business day. We screen the facts and tell you yes, no, or what we need within one business day.
  • Updates. You hear from us at filing, at mediation, and at resolution, and any time you ask.
  • Your client stays yours. We do not solicit your client for other work, and when the matter ends the client is free to return to you, which is what we encourage.
  • Co-counsel if you want it. Stay involved and share the work, or hand the case off entirely. Either is fine.

Cases we take

Wrongful termination, discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, whistleblower claims, leave and disability violations, unpaid wages and overtime, and PAGA claims. Employees and executives. California and Nevada, and Washington on the terms below.

How it works

  1. Send the facts through the form below or call. Do not send privileged documents until we have a signed agreement.
  2. We reply within one business day.
  3. If we take the case, we send you a written referral agreement and the client a written disclosure and consent form.
  4. Once both are signed, we take over the case, or we work it together as co-counsel.
  5. You get updates at each milestone and your share when the case resolves.

The fee rules, in plain language

California. Rule 1.5.1 of the California Rules of Professional Conduct allows lawyers in different firms to divide a fee when three things are true: the lawyers sign a written agreement to divide the fee, the client consents in writing after full written disclosure of the division, the lawyers involved, and the terms, and the total fee is not increased because of the division. We handle all three before any work begins.

Nevada. Nevada Rule of Professional Conduct 1.5(e) allows a fee division between lawyers in different firms when the client agrees to the arrangement, including each lawyer's share, the agreement is confirmed in writing, and the total fee is reasonable. Nevada does not require the referring lawyer to perform a share of the work or to assume joint responsibility.

Washington. Washington Rule of Professional Conduct 1.5(e) allows a fee division only if it is in proportion to the work each lawyer does or each lawyer assumes joint responsibility for the representation, the client agrees in writing to each lawyer's share, and the total fee is reasonable. We do not enter joint responsibility arrangements. A Washington referral pays you a share only if you stay on and share the work. Otherwise we take the case without a fee division.

Referral fees are paid only to licensed lawyers. The client's fee is never increased because a referral fee is paid.

We refer cases out, too

Matters outside our practice, including injury claims, workers' compensation, and cases in states where we are not licensed, go to lawyers we know and trust. Once referred, the matter is that lawyer's. If you want to be considered for those referrals, email lawrence@freimanlegal.com with your states of admission and practice areas.
